Wednesday February 22 and Thursday February 23, 2012

Pearson Convention Centre, Brampton, Ontario

Nurturing Matters will feature experts in child development and share the findings from a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)-funded knowledge synthesis answering the question:

What are the population health interventions that public health can realistically implement to support optimal child wellbeing (social, emotional, and cognitive) from the prenatal period through infancy to the end of the first year of life?

The knowledge synthesis explores evidence-informed, population-based approaches to improving child development outcomes that can be used to guide future programming.

Hear from the research team and other experts in child development, knowledge synthesis and public health in Canada.  Speakers include: Stuart Shanker (York University), Nicole Letourneau (University of Calgary), Brenda Smith-Chant (Trent University), Cyndi Gilmer (Trent University), Jean Clinton (McMaster University), Peel Public Health:  David Mowat, Anne Fenwick, Judy Buchan, Claudine Bennett, Melanie Gillespie along with representatives from CIHR, and the Center on the Developing Child, Harvard University.

Join leaders in public health, research, early child development and maternal and infant care in shaping the future of parenting and early child programming. Using participatory methods of professional facilitator Jo Nelson, guests will explore how the findings from the knowledge synthesis can be applied in real-world interventions.
