30 Jul Increased funding for PHNs working in schools!

PHNs are well positioned to support schools with infection prevention and control (IPAC) measures to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19. PHNs are skilled and knowledgeable with case and contact management and additionally can support the health and well being of all school communities. CHNIG as well as RNAO are advocating for baccalaureate prepared RNs in local health units to fufill this role.

As part of the “Ontario Releases Plan for Safe Reopening of Schools in September” for Fall 2020, the hiring of “up to 500 additional school-focused nurses in public health units to provide rapid-response support to schools and boards in facilitating public health and preventative measures, including screening, testing, tracing and mitigation strategies”.
