The Health Promotion Seminar Series is a collaborative effort between de Souza Institute and the Community Health Nurses Initiatives Group (CHNIG). The seminars offer an opportunity for professional development to nurses working in all domains of practice; community or acute care. Topics are focused on current issues, and provide a means for knowledge transfer, discussion, and resources to apply to practice.

As public health professionals, you face many different kinds of practice-based questions about how best to promote health, prevent illness, or treat health problems in your communities. Quantitative Research Designs 101 is a free, interactive and self-paced module designed for public health practitioners, program managers/directors and staff responsible for the planning and delivery of public health programs and services.

Quantitative Research Designs 101 walks you through the quantitative research designs commonly used to address practice-based questions, and discusses the strengths and limitations of each design.
- Learn how to distinguish between effectiveness (e.g., does a treatment or prevention intervention work?) and causation (e.g., what is the relationship between a risk factor and a health outcome?) questions

Public Health Ontario (PHO)
PHO’s continuing professional development and education activities are aimed at increasing the capacity of those who work in public health and the broader health system. They provide evidenced-informed content expertise and information sharing on a range of public health topics and areas.
Working in partnership with experts across Ontario, their programs consist of collaborative platforms, such as videoconferencing and webinars. Their goal is to encourage and facilitate interaction and to optimize ways to break down the barriers between academic and research information and front-line knowledge and practice.
Regular training and professional development opportunities for professionals within public health and the broader health system can not only educate, but renew passion and interest in public health. PHO is committed to offering real-time educational opportunities that address current and emerging needs of various audiences.
