Dear Members,
The Community Health Nurses’ Initiatives Group would like to share with you the following article:
Ross, L. E., Kinitz, D. J., & Kia, H. (2022). Pronouns are a public health issue. American Journal of Public Health, 112(3), 360-362. doi:10.2105/AJPH.2021.306678
You can retrieve it from https://ajph.aphapublications.org/doi/10.2105/AJPH.2021.306678.
In the article, the authors explained why the use of correct pronouns for trans- and gender-diverse (TGD) people is a definite public health issue. They concluded that the use of correct trans-inclusive language in the workplace has a profound impact on the comfort and psychological safety of the TGD people. The article is concise, and contains valuable content to be used in our daily practice.
You can also listen to Dr. Lori Ross in the following podcast: https://soundcloud.com/alfredomorabia/ajph-32022-pronouns-are-a-public-health-issue-english, which is based on the article above.
