21 Jun Compassionate Care NOT Cuts for Refugees

CHNIG member Leanne Siracusa represented RNAO/CHNIG as she spoke at the 3rd national day of  protest against cuts to the interim health coverage for refugees.

One of the national protest sites was Hamilton where she spoke on June 16, 2014 at the invitation of physician partners and medical students from McMaster University.  She emphasized  the extreme hardship resulting from these health care cuts for refugees.  They have already experienced much turmoil in their home countries and as newcomers to Canada, and then encounter further barriers from lack of or difficulty accessing health care.  Not only are the cuts unjust, they are short-sighted costing the health care system more in the long term.

Leanne urged all to act by advocating for reversal of the cuts at both the provincial and federal levels of government.
