02 Nov Invitation to Participate in NCCDH Environmental Scan

A message from Dr. Claire Betker, Scientific Director, NCCDH

I’m writing to invite you to participate in the fourth National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health (NCCDH) environmental scan through an online survey. For over 10 years, the NCCDH has regularly engaged with the Canadian public health community through environmental scans. Each scan has informed NCCDH strategic priorities and significantly influenced how we use our energy, time and resources to respond to knowledge gaps, synthesize evidence and knowledge, build networks, and offer relevant services. The findings from the previous scans have been published on our website in both English and French and have been referenced widely.

The first three environmental scans played a pivotal role in shaping our understanding of the roles that public health actors take to address health inequities, as well as the leadership, knowledge, attitudes, and skills required to advance health equity.

The current environmental scan focuses on public health knowledge and action to address what we now know as the structural and social determinants of health. The scan uses a multi strategy approach, including: a review of the relevant literature, the online survey I am inviting you to take, and a series of discussion groups and key informant interviews. The information gathered from the literature and the survey will be used to inform the subsequent strategic conversations.

Our goal is to reach a broad and diverse group from the Canadian public health community, so that we can better understand your current work and context. We want to hear your thoughts on how the NCCDH – and the larger health system – can support your efforts to address the root causes of health inequity.

Your voice and contributions are necessary and appreciated. By taking this survey, and sharing it within your networks, you are playing a vital role in supporting public health and advancing action for health equity.

Warmly,

Claire
