05 May Participants Needed for Nurses at Risk Study

We Need Your Expertise!

Dr. Pat Armstrong from York University is leading a research team that is examining the relationship between nurses, their work and health. The study, “Nurses at Risk: Exploring Gender and Race in Workplace Illness, Injury and Violence” takes as its starting point the findings of the 2005 National Survey on the Work and Health of Nurses.

Our intent is to focus more closely on your experiences of the relationship between nursing work and health, with particular consideration to issues of diversity. Our goal is to gather information from nurses practising in a variety of settings: hospitals, long-term care homes, homecare and other community agencies, in order to capture the full diversity that is nursing.

We are seeking RNs, RPNs and Nurse Practitioners from all across Ontario. We are particularly interested in home care nurses. We want to make sure to include nurses from racialized groups, nurses who have recently immigrated to Canada, nurses with disabilities, as well as nurses who have experienced workplace-related injury, illness, discrimination and/or violence. We need your assistance to help us explore the complex challenges that you face in providing care.

We will be scheduling more focus groups and individual interviews in the near future and would greatly appreciate your participation. Please note that we place a priority on confidentiality. Information that could identify individuals or specific organizations will be protected.

If you are interested in assisting us in this important project—or if you would like more information about participating in a focus group of nurses or individual interview, please contact Judith MacDonnell, study coordinator, York Institute for Health Research, 5021 TEL Building, 4700 Keele Street, Toronto, ON M3J 1P3 by e-mail: jmacdonn@yorku.ca or telephone: 416-736-2100 Ext. 20717.
