03 Aug OAHPP holds first Public Health Nursing Summit

On April 27th this year the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion held it’s first ever Public Health Nursing Summit. The objectives of the day included increasing understanding of the evolving and expanding role of public health nursing for improving population health outcomes and decreasing health inequities by OAHPP, by hearing from public health nursing leaders from the front line and from the public health unit/ regional level.

Presentations included:  ‘OAHPP Strategic Plan and Priorities: A vision for public health renewal’- Dr. Vivek Goel, ‘Public Health Nursing: Strength, Knowledge, Professionalism, and Solid Expertise in Improving Population Health’- Katie Dilworth and  ‘Vision for Community/Public Health Nursing’- Ruth Schofield.
Evaluations demonstrated the day was an excellent start but there is still much work to do. The summit will be an annual event to continue the work on behalf of Public Health Nurses in Ontario.
